I would have actually given this organisation 0 if I'd been able to! They are a recruitment agency, with offices in the UK, Turkey and Kazakstan. They serve two functions 1) to help foreign students get university placements in the UK, and 2) to place British teachers in schools in Turkey, Kazakstan and U.A.E. I applied for a job in a kindergarten in Ankara as I already had experience with this age group. The booking assistant contacted me and was very excited about my CV. I told him I couldn't work until 11th October so he said he'd check with the school (incase they wanted Sept start only), he emailed me 3 days later to say this was fine and to arrange a skype interview. At the end of the interview he said he was able to make me a secure offer and invited me to his office in London to sign the contract. When I arrived he was not there, despite knowing I was coming in that day ( I had travelled from Norfolk to get there). His colleague photocopied my documents and gave me the contract and said "You're starting on 1st October , right?" I told him it had been agreed for me to start on the 11th, so he just shrugged and said "Oh that's probably fine then". When I got home I emailed the bookings assistant and relayed what had been said, and stated once more I could not work until the 11th. He emailed back and said whatever date I wanted was fine. A few days later I had another email from him saying he needed scanned copies of my docs (despite having photocopies) and he also needed confirmation that I would be starting on the 1st October ?!?!! I emailed and asked what was happening as I'd now told him about 3 times that I couldn't start until the 11th. He said he'd have to check with the school . Next thing I know I'm being told that the school cannot go ahead as they want teachers to start at the beginning of SEPTEMBER! so even the 1st Oct wouldn't have been okay! Can't believe I signed a contract when he hadn't confirmed the dates. He tried to blame the school, but I fear it is his disorganisation at fault. I am now facing a battle trying to get my travel expenses (for the wasted trip to London) back as the company hasn't got a cheque book and I don't like giving bank details online ( I've suggested a postal order, we'll see what happens..) Would advise people to think twice before applying through this company, their disorganisation is shocking, but worse than that they refuse to admit their mistakes and have treated me like I'm being unreasonable, because I feel angry and let down! |
